Pupil absence
If pupils are absent from school it is important that they find out from their class teacher or friends what they have missed and if they will be completing practical work the next lesson in Home Economics. A general guide is that S1 pupils cook every second week and S2 – S3 pupils cook every week on the same day. It is also important that pupils make an effort to catch up on any missed homework.
S2 Fabric work
All pupils in S2 have now completed the fabric unit. Due to a variety of reasons, some pupils have not finished their item in order to take it home. If you wish your child to finish off their practical fabric work, then they should make arrangements with their class teacher to work on it during lunchtime.
Practical Cookery
A list of S1 and S2 practical work is on display on the Home Economics noticeboard. If pupils are absent they should check to see what they will be making and the type of container they require.
Homework
S1/2
Most pupils have been handing in homework on a regular basis and their work has been of a good standard. However some pupil have not been as diligent in this area and we would ask for your continued support in ensuring that homework is completed to a high standard by checking and signing homework before it is handed in.
S3/4 Standard Grade
Homework plays a vital role in the pupils learning experience, giving them practice at answering technique and re-enforcing classroom teaching. Homework is usually given out once a week. We would ask for your support in ensuring that homework is completed to a high standard by checking and signing homework before it is handed in.
Most pupils in S3 and S4 are completing homework to a very high standard and we would look for your continued support in this area. However, a small number of pupils have not been as diligent in this area and we would ask you to monitor the completion of homework and discuss possible problems with your child.
