General
It is the responsibility of every pupil to remember to bring their money and a suitable container for practical lessons. This is regarded by the Home Economics Department as homework. Failure to do so will be treated as failure to complete homework. After having received guidance from the teacher, it is the pupil's own responsibility to catch up on any missed class work at home. If a teacher is required to help explain any points, then arrangements can be made to catch up on the work at lunchtime. The department appreciates the role parents have to play with the completion of homework and therefore we require all written homework to be signed by parent/carer before it is handed in. If homework has not been signed it will be returned in order to ensure that parents have the opportunity to monitor the standard of homework being completed. S1 and S2 Please see course outlines which indicate when Homework is issued. S3/4 Standard Grade – 1 formal piece of homework every week. In addition to this pupils will be expected to complete any incidental homework that arises. Int 2/Higher (HFT ) – 1 formal piece of homework every week. In addition to this pupils will be expected to complete any incidental homework that arises throughout the course and prepare for lessons at home eg background reading. After the Christmas holidays pupils will also be working on their technological projects.
Pupil's Responsibility Pupils should complete homework on time and ensure that it is signed by parent/carer. Teacher's Responsibility Turn around dates should be kept to a minimum to ensure that pupils benefit from feedback (1 week max for Standard Grade). Sanctions If a pupil fails to hand in homework the first role oh the class teacher is to establish if there is a good reason (a note explaining the problem often saves valuable class time). If there is, then a realistic extension will be given. If there is not then whole school homework policy will be followed.
