Welcome to St John's Academy Nursery

The nursery is located in two rooms within the school. It operates five mornings ( 9am – 11.30am ) and five afternoons ( 12.45 – 3.15pm ) sessions weekly. It is staffed by two teachers (job share) and two Early Childhood Practitioners (full time).

The aims of the nursery are:
  • To ensure each child's unique needs and interests are at the centre of the curriculum
  • To promote good self esteem and confidence by valuing and respecting each child
  • To provide a safe, stimulating, happy environment which is challenging and where children are encouraged to be active in their learning
  • To promote equal opportunities
  • To create a variety of play opportunities which develop children's individual skills, knowledge and understanding
  • To value parents as the main educators and work with them and the local community

The nursery and Primary 1 class work closely together, planning for active learning. Playswap sessions operate between the nursery and Primary 1, two sessions for both the morning and afternoon weekly. During these sessions the children interact with one another and are involved in joint learning activities.
