What is Curriculum for Excellence?Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) represents a different approach to learning in schools and in the way education is delivered in nursery, primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, the workplace and the community. It takes a fresh approach to what, how and where young people learn. CfE aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills by providing a coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18. As an all through school, St John’s RC Academy is in a strong position to deliver Curriculum for Excellence for all our children and young people. Ultimately CfE aims to develop “four capacities” in young people which are: successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens. We are currently in the second year of implementing CfE, which means all pupils from nursery to S2 are experiencing learning based on the new curriculum. As S2 move into S3 and then to the national qualifications phase of their education, pupils and parents naturally have questions over these changes.
